Dean Sanpei is the former House Representative for Provo, Utah.  Dean Sanpei is currently the Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer for Centura Health in Colorado.  Centura is one of the largest healthcare providers in the Colorado / Kansas / Utah region.  They have 20 hospitals and $13 billion in revenue. Prior to moving to Colorado he was the Vice President for Strategic Planning and Development for Intermountain Healthcare. He started with Intermountain after graduating with a Masters Degree from Brigham Young University over 25 years ago. He is married to Hinckley Jones Sanpei and they have two children, 25 and 23 years old.

Dean Sanpei has always had a passion for politics and been actively involved in grassroots politics in Utah for over 10 years. He has served as a precinct chair, state and county delegate, member of the executive committee, and from 2005 - 2010 he served as the Legislative District Chair for District 63. In the spring of 2010 he won the Republican Party nomination to be the State Legislative Representative for District 63. In November of 2010 he won the general election and became the Representative for House District 63.  In November of 2012 he won reelection for a second term and won two more terms in 2014 and 2016.  He currently serves on the Standing Committee for Government Operations and as the Chair for Executive Appropriations.   

Dean was born into a military family.  His father was a Lt. Colonel in the air force and they moved around a lot during his childhood. By the time Dean was in the 7th grade he had been in 7 different schools. He learned how to adapt to different environments and learned to accept people of varied backgrounds at a very early age.

After graduating from BYU Dean became the Assistant Director of Planning for Intermountain Healthcare’s Urban North Region. He was part of the core team that planned the rebuild of the McKay Dee Hospital.  He worked there for several years, before going to work for the consulting group of Johnston, Zabor, McManus in North Carolina where he was a Senior Project Manager with clients spread from San Diego to New York.

In 2003 Dean was brought back to Provo and Intermountain Healthcare as  the Director of Planning for the Urban South Region, which includes Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, Orem Community Hospital, and American Fork Hospital.

In 2006 he was promoted to the central office and later became the Vice President over Planning for all of Intermountain Healthcare.  As Intermountain’s VP he was responsible for planning for 23 hospitals, a 500,000+ member health plan, and one of the largest Physician Groups in Utah.  

In 2017 Dean left Utah to join Centura Health as the Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer.   At Centura he is responsible for Strategy and Business Development for the largest healthcare provider in Colorado and western Kansas which includes 2,727 licensed beds, over 100,000 acute admissions, and more than $13 billion in top line revenue. 

Dean has proven real world experience in the business sector dealing with budgets, multi-million dollar project prioritizations, and working with complex issues. Dean has a passion for life, a disciplined work ethic, and an ongoing pursuit of excellence.
