Pre-Session 2013 Survey

The results of the 2013 survey are in! The strongest finding of the survey is that our district overwhelmingly opposes the proposed increase in the sales tax on food. As the figure below shows, nearly 80% say they do not support this recommendation.

Another important finding is that voters want the legislature to prioritize public education. When asked where Utah’s expected $20 million budget surplus should be allocated, 60% said at least some of the funds should go to public education. This is shown in the chart below. The chart also shows once again the strong opposition to the increased tax on food; 51% said the excess funds should be used to offset the need for the proposed tax increase.

Priorities 2013

Voters in our district also want Utah to opt out of the Medicaid expansion proposed by the Federal government. About 60% of voters oppose the expansion, as the figure below illustrates.

Finally, our district places a very high priority on getting state control of lands currently owned by the Federal government in spite of the costs. About 69% said that this was at least somewhat important to them.
